Classes

Lonni Rossi Studios offers quilting and surface design classes for beginners (of all ages!) as well as advanced classes in surface design techniques on fabric. Classes in essential quilting techniques, and art quilt design and composition, are offered regularly. Surface design classes include Thermofax and photo silk screening, stamping, stenciling, tips on making your own tools and using found objects as printing tools.

Paint & Stitch /Fabric Magic: Part 1

In Part 1, learn how to free-form paint a background piece. Starting with white fabric,and pebeo setacolor textile paints, you will create a “mood” piece, similar to painting a watercolor background. It might be an abstract landscape at dawn or dusk, an underwater scene, something from outer space like galaxies or nebulas, or just a color study. Lonni will show you how to achieve depth by using a “solar painting” technique.Each student will have time to create at least two small pieces. If you want to create a larger piece at home, written directions for creating your own painting table will be provided. Lynn is a lady who loves fun and funky projects, and knows how to find the right stuff to re-cycle, re-claim and create them! Look for her Apron’s Galore class taking place in October! Here is her artist statement:
“My background is in Fibers and Crafting Design. I create apparel for the home and family. I collect vintage linens and apparel. These items are re-purposed for my projects. This is another way I have found to be kinder to our environment.”

ART DOLLMAKING FOR BEGINNERS

Bring your sense of fun, to this class as we explore doll making and doll decorating techniques in a fun and easy way. We’ll construct a simple body form and each doll will be embellished to express your unique individual touch. The focus of the class will be on bringing the doll to life and giving it personality. No doll making experience is required, only basic sewing skills.

Susan is our local doll-making celebrity, having been hired to create prop dolls for the movie, “the Last Airbender.” Her fun and quirky design sense and skilled techniques will certainly make you smile in our first-ever dollmaking class!

”My work consists of mixed media sculptures, fiber art and art dolls. Art is an essential part of my world. It is a fiber that is woven throughout me. My work is generally fun and playful, in an otherwise serious world. I enjoy working with the human form. It is a canvas of possibilities. Tuition: $125 / Materials Fee: $75 (Total for the two-part class) Materials provided for both classes will include two thermofax screens, paints, fabrics and embellishments.

PART 1: THE FABRIC
Motif development, Thermofax making, screening, stamping, and many of Lonni’s other techniques for surface design. Many types of fabric appropriate for the PROJECT will be available and discussed.
PART 2: THE PROJECT
We’ll be making a Bed Scarf…which could also be a table runner or skinny quilt depending on your choice of fabric and finishing technique.
Two-Part Class: Noon – 3 PM (Total of 6 hours of instruction)

Art Quilt Techniques Support Group

It's an artist playdate, A "salon" evening in the studio, a work in progress (or finished) show'n tell, ufo tackling, fun event! Whatever you want to call it, it's definitely an opportunity to gather with other fiber artists in Lonni's studio for a few hours of inspiration and lively discussion in a relaxed atmosphere. Discover new ideas, solutions and techniques, and make some new friends. The first meeting that anyone attends is absolutely FREE, if you like the idea, then you can join the group for $15.00 for 4 more meetings. Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. (September 22, October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5)
